Nights have been sad for me lately.

Here it is

I purchased three books today at an unexpected visit to the thrift store. Total cost: $3.20

I've finished Steve Martin's novella of Shopgirl. I first picked this book up to look it over at a B&N in Indiana. I believe last year the film came out---of which I have yet to see.

The book shares the following qualities that don't stray too far from my own persona: flirty and disarming with a stirring thoughtfulness. I would recommend it if this sounds at all appealing to you.

Which leads me to...

I have but one qualification that a book must meet in order for me to have the slightest interest in cracking the pages further:

I read the first page of the first chapter. If my curiosity is anything other than strongly peaked, the book goes right back on the shelf. I find this to be an effective proverbial literary "butt-sniff."

Ahem.
Muddled

I can't sleep. Duane is knocked out cold and he has to be up around 4:30. OUCH.

I, unlike el Duane, am on a semi-forced vaykay. Shenanigans with Eli and mom in the morn...should be fun.

Am I the only person that hates MSN spaces with a passion? UGH. If I see one more ONLINE DATING JOURNAL I'm going to hurl.

I was watching Dateline tonight about these nasty old dudes thinking they were going to hook up with a 13 year-old girl they "met" online. To their dismay, these dudes were met with a Dateline anchor and a bunch of undercover cops when they arrived to the "parent-less" house of the teenie. They were busting so many dudes...some of which had driven over 2 hours to meet up with this chick they thought they were chattin it up with online. HOW sick are these people?

One of the dudes was even a 6th grade teacher. Another was a seminary student. CREEPY.

This whole show reminded me of my online dating fiascos/shenanigans, and showed me that some of my encounters could have gotten ugly if I was wreckless.

G-d forbid I have a daughter one day...Myspace will continue to spread with Alexander-like breadth, people. Ah, how I love it so.

Root beer floats have once again resurfaced in my life. I'm glad to see them once again.

PABST BLUE RIBBON.

Class.Act.

Seeing Duane today was theraputic. I'm missing our private life. We should be back to normal by this time next week...my ORDER of OPERATIONS has been bedraggled with unecessary emotional burden.

Enough of that.

Slevin Times

Hola, folk. Saw Lucky Number Slevin tonight...I would HIGHLY recommend.

My mind is suffocating right now. I need a mental/ physical /bowel vacation.

Its harder to feel this way.

Have you ever met someone completely judgemental and it sucks the energy right from you? Yea. Try having that someone around you 24/7, and there was no escape without some kind of dramatic consequence.

This is my life.

Add onto that getting laid off and having to leave your family in a matter of weeks.

Life.is.not.great.right.now.

Ahem

Will Smith, if you crashed MY Bat Mitzvah ANYWHERE, I would kick your ass.

I have no idea why it is such a big deal when celebs visit Israel. Get over yourselves, people.

The hell stops tomorrow.

More than words

It has been awhile. And OH, let me count the drama:

1. Duane got laid off from Bank of America (the largest layoff in Colorado Springs since 98) on Monday.

2. I got laid off from my job on Tuesday.

3. Duane interviewed for a job with B of A in Phoenix yesterday.

4. We're most likely moving to Phoenix within 3 weeks.

5. Duane's mom flew in from Germany on Tuesday. She'll be here for 3 weeks.

6. Duane's eldest brother gets in Colorado Springs tonight with his wife and two kids.

7. All of these people are staying at our 2 bedroom, 2-story condo. Two bathrooms, one shower.

8. Its Pesach (Hag sameach Pesach, btw). Our seder was AWESOME, and it was on Wednesday.

There's the dish.

Already here...

This weekend was fab. Friday night we had Duane's soccer game. Saturday we headed up to Boulder, then back into Denver at the Hotel Monaco's Aveda spa for some treatment.

Duane had a haircut and beard trim while I enjoyed an hour-long facial. It was glorious.

Post-Aveda, we watched The Benchwarmers, and then met up with Eli & Tara. They have a new loft downtown, so we decided to check it out. LOVING IT.

We drove back down to the Springs on Saturday night only to return to Denver less than 12 hours later, where we would brunch at the Inverness with guests and family.

*NINJA BANQUET SERVERS*

Last night we were cleaning until 11pm in preparation for Duane's mother visiting from Germany. I wish I was still sleeping....

Now its time to work and finish taxes. YAY! Next year my return is going to be a CHUB.

Get your OWN

Up until an hour ago, it was snowing madly. The sun is now out, and there is hardly a cloud in the sky. Crazy. Colorado weather = ridic.

Duane has today off to work on el house. We lunched. I find myself nervous about his mom coming next week during Pesach. Its as if I'm a kid waiting for a shot at the doctor's office...I'm sick with the anxiety...but as soon as I get the shot, I know its going to be better.

What's killing me is the fact that his mom is going to meet my family at my Pesach seder...a HUGE 3-hour ordeal for any Jewish family. Its crazy enough that they are all meeting each other at the same time, but try adding an epic sit-down service and meal completely devoid of leaven to the mix, and you have yourself a deal. Apparently I am the only one that feels this way.

I find myself starting arguments just for the sake of having something interesting to talk about. Perhaps it is a reminder to myself that I'm alive. My emotions have been very static in the past month...I need some kind of excitement. Or rather an EXERCISE of EMOTION is what I need.

From your Board of Directors...

68 degrees outside, dotted with a few bright clouds. The PEAK covered in snow. Brown...a few green bits. And here. Office lighting. Office chair. No attempt whatsoever for an ergo enviro. 8 minutes until I am sprung free.

WAHOO Fish Taco just DOESN'T sound like a good place to eat. CHANGE IT.

The Container Store is DESPERATELY trying to be IKEA. Its not happening.

I feel the urge to go shooting today...the weather stands. I must. Creative inspiration = lacking. The aforementioned officural enviro is killing my creative soul. NEUTRAL tones.

WHO WANTS TO CLEAN THE HOUSE?

I need to track down an outdoorsy activity ASAP...

I felt like absolute crap this morning...glad I went to work, as I've been feeling substantially better this afternoon.

Taxes need to be done.

I'd rather be snorkeling in Barbados with my mistress and a pack of sea turtles.

Opening day!

Great weekend. Duane's soccer game on Friday resulted in an overwhelming victory...we got pulled over because some cop wanted to check out the registration that we just had renewed that very same afternoon. View-age of Ice Age 2---very cute.

Saturday had a bit of shopping, Sunday we met with a potential photographer, looked at some possible invitations, lunched in the Highlands, walked the dogs around the lake, and chatted with the rents. The next few weeks are going to be filled with out-of-town visitors, Pesach, and Broadmoore brunching-- to which I am not opposed. :)

Today we're going to the Rockies opening day! YAY! They are playing the Diamondbacks (woo Arizona!), and Duane got us club level for the event. We're going to be leaving in a bit here....

After the game we're stopping by the rentals to secure some more of my crap from their basement. I moved in with Duane 4 months ago, but I still have a small island of belongings in the basement.

I've made a decision about wedding flowers, and I have my heart set on magnolias. UNFORTCH, they are only available in the south. WTF? I need some magnolias, people. We'll certainly have to finagle.
